Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect from personal training?

Session One: Assessment. We always begin with an assessment of your goals, as well as a discussion of your current level of health and fitness. You'll come away with a personalized plan - you will  know exactly what you need to do with exercise and nutrition to achieve your goals outside our one-on-one sessions.

Session Two: Although all exercise is good, not all exercise is best for every body all the time. Our first session begins to gear you in the best direction for your personal exericse. In addition to traditional weight training, I offer Freestyle training for women, circuit training, jogging, biking and cardio programs, yoga and power yoga, posture training, and Brain Gym, as well as hands-on stretching, PNF, yogassage and a variety of flexibility programs.

Subsequent Sessions: Your Body-Type Diet. Life Coaching. Specialized Kinesiology, all according to your needs and goals.

What kind of people come to Total Fitness?

Over the years, our clients have ranged from age 6 - for specialized kinesiology and nutrition to improve school performance - to age 91. We helped a home-bound elderly woman relearn the gentle art of walking with a personalized exercise program, nutrition to build strength and kinesiology to switch on her core coordination reflexes.

Most of our clients are successful adults who are interested in a whole-person approach to health and fitness.

We operate from a different paradigm than other health professionals. You consult a doctor when you are sick. You go to a psychiatrist or a psychologist when you feel unhappy. You come to Total Fitness when you dare to be the best you can be.

How often do I come for sessions?

Most of our clients come two to three times per week. Life Coaching/Peak Performance clients come once a week for 10 weeks, following the protocol recommended by our mentor, Sue Maes of London, Ontario, Canada.

Because we view personal training as the art of personal development, which is an ongoing process of body, mind and spirit, many of our clients have been with us for years.

How can I supplement my one-on-one workouts with cardio sessions?

Join certified bike instructor Henry Edmunds for regular fun rides in the Atlanta area, or join our yoga classes at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings. Many people are pleasantly surprised to discover that yoga is an excellent aerobic workout!

What is Life Coaching?

Life coaching is an educational process that has been developed from my many years of study of a wide range of healing and transformational techniques. I draw upon Specialized Kinesiology, Touch for Health, Brain Gym, HeartMath, Reiki, Attractor Field Therapy, Movement Development, Integrative Yoga Therapy, Bach and Perelandra flower remedies, Taoist meditation practices, nutrition and the mind-body connection as well as a profound study of East/West psychology. Life Coaching may be experienced either in a one-on-one process or a group corporate setting. It involves a series of ongoing sessions designed to 1) identify goals 2) remove the conscious and unconscious blocks that have prevented you from achieving those goals and 3) achieve peak performance in all areas of your life.

What can I accomplish through Life Coaching?

Whether you choose to develop your athletic skills, increase your grade point average in school, overcome anxiety and depression or finesse your way in corporate board rooms, life coaching can make a profound difference for you. Of all techniques I have at my disposal to bring about profound levels of transformation, this is the most powerful.

Is Life Coaching a subsitute for psychotherapy or medical care?

No. Life Coaching is an educational process. All learning comes from you. It is not a substitute for medical therapy. All those who need psychiatrists, psychologists, medical doctors or other healing professionals are referred to an appropriate practitioner.

May I include Life Coaching along with personal fitness training?

Many of our clients incorporate Life Coaching in their programs, along with fitness training, nutrition and yoga classes. I believe that the most effective transformation occurs on all levels - not only physical, but also on the energetic, emotional, intellectual and spiritual levels of our being.

What is Brain Gym?

Brain Gym itself is just 26 simple exercises that are copyrighted by the Educational Kinesiology Foundation. All are designed to enhance peak performance brain function. These exercises may be learned alone, or used in a process called a balance to integrate all parts of the brain for better centering, focus and learning. I like to explain that Brain Gym is like basic math. Anyone can learn basic math. The processes I use in Life Coaching are like super calculus - going beyond basic Brain Gym to include a wide range of healing techniques accessed through kinesiology. To learn basic Brain Gym, join our regular seminars. To find the next date, please click on the Seminars button on your left.

What is kinesiology?

Kinesiology is a system of biofeedback originally developed by medical doctors at Harvard University. It is used worldwide by alternative practitioners who draw on the knowledge of the mind-body connection to access the body's wisdom and the deepest levels of intelligence.
